 El Gran Canaria Frontón Pro 2017 reanudó la competición para celebrar los octavos de final y así comenzar la fase final. La organización junto a la APB World Tour decidió el pasado jueves aplazar la competición a la espera de mejores condiciones meteorológicas. Con un tamaño de olas que superaban los 4 metros y con viento sur hicieron que El Frontón volviese a mostrar su mejor versión para estas rondas definitivas. 

Las rondas correspondientes a los octavos de final se compondrían de un total de 24 competidores que buscaban el paso a cuartos de final. La ronda número 3 se desarrollaría con enfrentamientos mano a mano, es decir sólo 2 competidores en el agua y 20 minutos de tiempo total. Un máximo de 10 olas puntuando solo las 2 mejores, los favoritos a coronarse “rey” del Gran Canaria Frontón King Pro 2017 iniciaban los cuartos de final. Importante señalar que todos los riders que optan a adjudicarse el subcampeonato mundial seguían todos en competición por lo que la lucha y la emoción estaba garantizada. 

Jared Houston, Alex Uranga, Uri Valadao, Antonio Cardoso y Diego Cabrera mantenían todas sus opciones al subcampeonato mundial. Cada uno de ellos superaron con claridad todos sus enfrentamientos mano a mano en la ronda 3. Sin embargo, en la ronda ronda 4 de octavos de final el primero de los favoritos en caer fue el brasileño Uri Valadao que se vio superado por Jared Houston y el vasco Alex Uranga. En único de 10 de la jornada fue para Dudu Pedra, un enorme tubo y un ars le valió al brasileño para obtener una ola perfecta. Pierre Louis Costes y el australiano Ryan Hardy también superaban su manga y el pase a cuartos de final. En la última manga del día el tinerfeño Diego Cabrera lograría el pase a cuartos para seguir peleando por el subcampeonato mundial. En esta última manga Amaury Lavernhe lograría el primer lugar dejando fuera de la lucha por el número 2 del ranking a el portugués Antonio Cardoso. 

Las máximas puntuaciones del día fueron para el hawaiano Jacob Romero con una puntuación de 9.83, con una maniobra (air reverse) que levantó de sus asientos al público asistente. El francés Pierre Louis Costes campeón mundial APB 2016 obtuvo la segunda mejor puntuación del día con un 9.60. 

[:en]The Gran Canaria Frontón Pro 2017 resumed the competition to celebrate the round of 16 and thus begin the final phase. The organization along with the APB World Tour decided last Thursday to postpone the competition in anticipation of better weather conditions. With a size of waves that surpassed the 4 meters and with south wind they made that the Frontón returned to show its better version for these definitive rounds.
The rounds corresponding to the round of 16 would consist of a total of 24 competitors who looked for the step to the quarterfinals. Round number 3 would develop with hand-to-hand clashes, ie only 2 competitors in the water and 20 minutes total time.
