2013
Frontón King begins
First edition. A humble championship that surprised everyone: viewers followed it from anywhere in the world thanks to the livestream. The banana tradition starts here.
2014
A second edition, with more experience
The second edition, with a little more experience. Epic Events is formed.
2015
The Cabildo comes in as main sponsor
The Cabildo de Gran Canaria becomes main sponsor through its tourism board. The Gran Canaria Frontón King Pro is born.
2016
We join the world circuit
The championship joins the World Bodyboard Circuit as its final stop. The world's best come to Gáldar to settle the title.
2017
The women take the stage
The women's and junior divisions debut.
2018
The first local champion
Teresa Miranda becomes the first local female champion. Prize money reaches $36,000.
2019
We crown the world champions
Tristan Roberts wins the event and the world title.
2020
Local rider Lionel Medina wins at home
The only sporting event held in Gran Canaria during the COVID emergency, under strict protocols.
2021
The first junior world champion
Luis Tausía is the first junior world champion crowned at El Frontón.

Two Canarian world champions
Two Canarian champions in a single edition.
2025
The Canaries' first 100% solar event
14th edition, 11–25 October. The first 100% solar-powered sporting event in the Canaries. 128 riders from 15 countries. Amaury Lavernhe wins the event for a fourth time.
The tradition
Since the first edition, the winner is not champion until they have lifted a whole bunch of bananas, 50 to 70 kilos, and held it while the crowd counts to ten. Beside them, a puppy of the island's own breed and the king of clubs card. A way of paying tribute to Gáldar and to the people who grow bananas on the island.
