WHEN THERE'S COMPETITION

How We Choose the Competition Days

We have a 14-day window to pick best 6 days. We go live when the following align: tide (it works between mid-tide and high tide; we usually get 6–7 good hours around high tide with daylight from 07:30–19:30), swell (size and period), and wind ((light winds or offshore . The official confirmation is posted on the event’s official Instagram account @frontonking..

  • The longer the swell period, the more power reaches the reef.
  • Energy = height + period → more energy means the reef needs more water.
  • Wind Ideal: from offshore or light winds.
  • Tides: Frontón works best between mid-tide and high tide.
Optimal Swell
Comes from WNW→NNW with a period ≥ 12–14 s.
Optimal Wind
S→SE (offshore) ≤ 12 kt.
Tides
Window of 6–7 good hours around high tide with daylight (07:30–19:30).

Waves & Wind — What a Perfect Day Looks Like

Oriented Map: North Up
N
El Frontón
Optimal (WNW→NNW) Avarage (N o W puros) Very bad (E/SE/NE)

Waves The white lines indicate the optimal orientation with which they arrive at Frontón from the northwestthe direction where the wave forms best.

N
El Frontón
Optimal (S→SE: offshore) Avarage (E or W light cross-shore) Very bad (N→NE: onshore)

Wind The S–SE that comes from offshore (offshore) is best for El Frontón: clean and aligned the wave. From other directions, it negatively affects it.

High Period ⇒ more powerful and organized Energy = height + period.
